How to survive finals week

Let’s be honest; college is all fun and games until finals week. This is the week that you realize you probably should have gone to that class instead of ditching all semester, and the week that you realize you have the memory of a fish. Of course, the stress you feel during finals week is probably a bit of an over exaggeration. Get as much sleep as you can

When finals week comes around, there’s a high chance that you probably stay up as late as you can so you can cram in as much information as possible. However, this can actually be more detrimental than good. That’s because your body needs sleep to fulfill its cognitive functions to the best of its ability, and a lack of sleep can harm that. It’s best to try and get your full eight hours even if you don’t feel prepared, as that’s better than risking the information you do know by staying up and cramming!

Take breaks every now and then

If you’re the kind of person that likes to get as much done as quickly as possible, you might find that your concentration wanes after a few hours in front of the books. That’s because studying non-stop can be extremely tiring, and your brain needs a break every now and then. This doesn’t give you an excuse to watch a whole season of The Good Place on Netflix but is more of a chance for you to grab a drink, go to the bathroom, or check your emails. Taking breaks will acting help your retention levels.

Make use of study groups

Although you might be a lone wolf, making use of study groups can really help you get through finals week. Sometimes, talking through a subject with another person can help you understand it better, and the people in this study group might even be able to help you with something you’re stuck on. Even if you feel like you know everything you could possibly need to know about your class, then using the study group as a chance to review what you know could solidify this in your mind.

Be sure to make a plan

Do you ever just open your books, stare at the words on the page, and then hope that the information will just seep into your brain? We hate to break it to you, but this rarely works. The best way to make the most of your study periods and revision session is to create a plan. You need to make a list of the things you need to revise, and then prioritize them in terms of the ones that are most important. In this case, the ones that are most important are the ones that you aren’t so sure on. While you might want to avoid the things you don’t enjoy or don’t understand, you’ve gotta push through.
Are you gearing up for finals week? This can be one of the scariest weeks of your life, but you don’t need to worry too much. After all, worrying will get you nowhere! Take on these tips of how to survive finals week, and you’ll breeze through them. We promise.
