However, Gable really didn’t want to film this scene and even threatened to walk off set. Fleming agreed to shoot two versions; one with the crying and one with Gable’s back turned, seeming sorrowful. Eventually, Fleming managed to convince Clark Gable that the audience would empathize with Rhett and not feel as though he was weak. The crying scene stayed and was one of the most moving parts of the entire movie.
