The best college gyms in the country

When applying for colleges, there’s a lot to consider. For instance, do you want to live close to home, or are you hoping to get as far away from your parents as possible? What about your course? Does one place come more recommended than others for what you’re hoping to study? For some people, the local gym can make or break their decision because they want to train somewhere with the best equipment. If that’s you, you’re probably wondering which colleges have the greatest facilities across the US, right?

The University of Texas

If you love indulging in climbing, the University of Texas could have exactly what you’re after. The Pan American Wellness & Recreational Sports Facility offers one of the state’s highest climbing walls, and that’s just the cherry on top of this magnificent college gym. With an indoor running track, lap pool, and dance studio, you can pretty much embark on any exercise you want. Plus, the building comes with a wonderful juice bar too, so you have somewhere to cool off once your workout is over.

University of Pennsylvania

The David Pottruck Health and Fitness Center was looking a little down on its luck at the turn of the century. Thankfully, a $21 million refurbishment project turned this aging complex into the gym of every student’s dreams. Now the Pennsylvanian facility is home to an incredible four fitness centers, as well as a climbing wall, Pilates studio, and golf simulator. It also contains an Olympic-sized pool for any swimmers out there, and a co-ed sauna for when you want to give your muscles a break.

California State University

The Fullerton campus of California State University doesn’t play around when it comes to fitness. With multimedia cardio rooms, a jogging track, and an outdoor pool, the facilities here cater to a lot of student’s physical needs. Additional amenities like a climbing wall help make this campus one worth considering, although that’s not the real highlight of this college gym. No, it’s the facility’s low carbon footprint that really makes it stand out. If you want to help out the environment while getting in a good workout, this is the place to go.

Colorado State University

You have to ask yourself what exactly Colorado State University doesn’t offer at its gym. If you’re a climber, they’ve got an outdoor bouldering rock and indoor climbing wall. If you’re a swimmer, they have a lap pool and spa, complete with a sauna and steam room. They also boast basketball and volleyball courts, martial arts spaces, and even training rooms for people with special needs. Everyone is covered here, no matter what you’re looking for.

University of Maine

When you live in a state like Maine, you have to accept that snowfall is to be expected every year. Luckily, the gym facilities at the New Balance Student Recreation Center ensure that students can still make the most of their exercise, even when it’s snowy outside. They offer skis and snowshoes for people to rent so they can add some excitement to their workouts. If you’d rather not risk your life on the slopes, though, there’s still plenty you can do at the rec center, from swimming in their leisure pool to making use of their well-stocked gym.
You shouldn’t base where you go to college on the gym alone, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be the deciding factor in your choice.
