You have to go to college to have a good future

This is one of the biggest ones but it is not true, and you certainly shouldn’t choose to go to college for this reason. The fact of the matter is that you can have a perfectly great future without having to go to college at all. In fact, the chances are that you will wind up in a career that is not exactly related to your major, but this is okay. Just keep in mind that attending college doesn’t define your life.

You’ll graduate within 4 years

A lot of people believe that the majority of college courses will last about three or four years, but this is actually false. In fact, statistically close to 60% of college courses will take around six years or more to complete! That is a lot of work and dedication, and not something that should be entered into lightly. Of course, it largely depends on the major you choose, but you are likely in it for the long haul whatever you pick to do.

American colleges are the best

There is a common misconception that the colleges in the United States are by default the best ones. And it is true that America does have some of the best colleges in the world, with Ivy League institutions such as Harvard, Brown, and Yale, to name just a few, but there are plenty of great colleges abroad too. For instance, the UK has Oxford and Cambridge, which are widely regarded among the best colleges in the world. There are plenty of great schools abroad, so this is something to consider.

Another myth is that the college experience is an absolute must for any “normal” person before they enter the working world. In reality, plenty of people don’t go to college, and they wind up being just as normal and regular as the rest of us; it simply depends on your constitution, and what works for you.
Now we’ve cleared up some of the myths, we hope you will approach college life in a new light, and make sure you are focused on getting the best possible experience for you. This is a step to take because you want to do it, and you shouldn’t concern yourself with what other people think or say.
