Behind the scenes of the relationships between the stars of Game of Thrones

Behind the scenes of the relationships between the stars of Game of Thrones

Some shows appear to grip the world, but it might not be long until they fade away only to be replaced by something else. However, there is one show that seems to have taken over many people’s lives – and it doesn’t look as though it’s going anywhere. That’s right; we’re talking about Game of Thrones. The fantasy drama series first hit our screens in 2011. It wasn’t long before it grew to become one of the most talked about series of all times as it felt as though no one could get enough. Who would ever end up on the Iron Throne? And what will happen to the Night King?

Although many of us have become hooked by the on-screen chemistry between these rivaling families, it appears as though many can’t help but wonder what happens when the cameras stop rolling. It seems as though the stars of the show can often take their feelings for one another a lot further than the screens thanks to their behind the scenes relationships.

Behind the scenes

Game of Thrones is a show that appears to have grown to incredible heights over the years – and it doesn’t seem as though it will be slowing down anytime soon. The eighth series is one of the most anticipated of all times.

Behind the scenes

However, it appears as though Game of Thrones has made an impact on more than just our lives. Yes, the behind the scenes relationships of these actors show there’s still plenty more drama to come once the cameras stop rolling.

Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner

Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner are two leading actresses who have both made their names on Game of Thrones. The pair first met at auditions for the show, and it looked as though their friendship had been written in the stars all this time. Both Maisie and Sophie remember the first time that they met. Maisie confessed that she hoped her new friend got a part in Game of Thrones even if she missed out just because they had got along so well.

Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner

Thankfully, the actresses didn’t have to wait long to learn that they had both been handed a role in the series. This gave Maisie and Sophie all the time they needed to hang out on set every day. Believe it or not, but they have since got matching tattoos to mark the day they both learned they had been written into the show.

The best of friends

There have been more than 70 episodes of Game of Thrones – all filled with plenty of twists and storylines. Maisie and Sophie have both been involved in many of these meaning they have got the chance to work alongside each other many times. The best bit? The two actresses have been spotted messing around on set many times over the years.

The best of friends

Their relationship has gone much further than the screen as Maisie has since been there for her best friend after Sophie announced that she is now engaged to musician Joe Jonas. The two women have spent many evenings sharing sleepovers after filming. The best bit? They even created the name Mophie and want the world to know that their friendship is here to stay. Maisie and Sophie were spotted holding hands at the final premiere of the show. It seems this is a friendship set to last a lifetime.

Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke

Jason Momoa is an actor who has been spotted on both the big and small screens over the years, but it was his time playing Drogo on Game of Thrones that helped to introduce him to some long-lasting friends. The actor played the role of Emilia Clarke, Daenerys’ on-screen husband until an illness sees Daenerys forced to take his life. Although he left the show, that didn’t stop Jason from reminiscing about the stars’ time together.

Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke

Jason and Emilia have been seen hanging out together many times since their starring moments together, including when he met up with his former co-star in London. The pair appear to have nothing but kind words to say about one another, and it doesn’t look as though either of them will be ready to say “goodbye” to each other any time soon.

Gwendoline Christie and Kit Harington

Brienne was first introduced to the show in season two and has grown to become a huge part of Game of Thrones ever since. Gwendoline Christie is the woman behind the character. Thankfully, she has become a favorite amongst other cast members thanks to her time on the set. It was during filming that Gwendoline became especially close with Kit Harington, the actor behind Jon Snow.

Gwendoline Christie and Kit Harington

The pair would often hang out with each other and share behind the scenes snaps of their antics when the cameras weren’t rolling. It appears as though their friendship was popular with many other stars, too. Sophie Turner is one of the many who has been seen commenting on their snaps as it looks as though most of the cast is always there for one another with a few exceptions.

Sophie Turner and Natalie Dormer

It appears as though Sophie Turner has plenty of real-life best friends thanks to her time on the show. Sophie and Natalie Dormer have spent many years gushing over one another all over social media, but could their relationship have gone further?

Sophie once took to her social media where the star admitted Natalie was “the love of my life.” This led many fans to believe the pair had once dated, but the rumors were never confirmed, and Sophie is now engaged to Joe Jonas.

Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage

Cersei is one of the most talked about characters on the show – and not always for the right reasons. It appears as though some people forget that Lena Headey isn’t actually the queen that many see her as on screen.

Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage

Cersei has made many enemies on the show, and her relationship with Tyrion Lannister has been built on hatred. Thankfully, Lena and Peter Dinklage are close friends in reality. In fact, the pair often share apartments and dinners when their acting schedules line up with one another.

Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance

Charles Dance is the man behind the face of Lord Tywin. However, the actor was incredibly affected by the way his character treated his son, played by Peter Dinklage – so much so that Charles often felt as though he was responsible.

Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance

It’s said the actor would often apologize to Peter for Lord Tywin’s behavior between takes and always wanted to make sure that his co-star knew he didn’t feel that way. Thankfully, this was the beginning of a strong friendship.

Gwendoline Christie and Liam Cunningham

Many actors find ways to fill their time in between takes. Sometimes, these stars like to catch up on their reading or practicing their lines. Other times? The actors take the opportunity to build some everlasting friendships with their co-stars.

Gwendoline Christie and Liam Cunningham

Gwendoline Christie uploaded a clip of herself playing with Liam Cunningham’s beard. In the post, Gwendoline admitted that she felt as though Liam was her granddad and considered the star to be a huge part of her family.

Emilia Clarke and Nathalie Emmanuel

Emilia Clarke is one of the leading stars of the show and has worked alongside the majority of the characters over the years. Nathalie Emmanuel is no exception. The pair have since grown to become close friends behind the scenes.

Emilia Clarke and Nathalie Emmanuel

Many of the stars love to share photos from their time on set with their fans, and it looks as though these women are no exception. Now, Emilie and Nathalie are often seen commenting on one another’s photos as they try to spread the love far and wide.

Conleth Hill and John Bradley

Game of Thrones can quickly grow to take over many of these stars’ entire lives. Thankfully, they still have the time to pursue the rest of their careers in between filming for the seasons. Conleth Hill is one of the many who took his talents to new heights.

Conleth Hill and John Bradley

The actor soon landed himself a role in the theater, and it wasn’t long before one of his biggest fans, John Bradley, arrived to watch his performance. In fact, John posted his first ever Instagram post to commemorate the moment.

John Bradley and Joe Dempsie

John Bradley appears to have always had a passion for soccer, and it looks as though he finally got the chance to make his dreams come true after landing a meeting with the Manchester United soccer team.

John Bradley and Joe Dempsie

Finally, it was all coming together. It appears that John only wanted one person by his side meaning Joe Dempsie soon got an invite to it all. Thankfully, the pair snapped a photo of the moment as they showed off their friendship to the world.

Isaac Hempstead Wright and John Bradley

Isaac Hempstead Wright is one of the leading stars of Game of Thrones thanks to his time as Bran Stark. Playing the Three-Eyed Raven has certainly seen him become one of the most complex and loved characters on the show.

This means the actor has worked with many stars of the show, including John Bradley. Although the pair didn’t film together for many seasons, John updated his social media to tell the world about how excited he was that the duo were back filming together for season seven.

John Bradley and Gwendoline Christie

It appears as though John Bradley has made a handful of friends over the years thanks to his time on Game of Thrones. It was working on the set that gave the star the chance to meet none other than Gwendoline Christie.

John Bradley and Gwendoline Christie

The pair have been spotted at lunch together and have even uploaded snaps from their outings over the years. It seems the two stars have plenty in common with each other and wanted to continue their friendship away from the cameras.

Denying the rumors

The pair admit they have never dated but have always been close with one another ever since they met on the set of the show. Both Kit and Emilia confess they have plenty in common and their friendship has only grown stronger since filming together.

Denying the rumors

Apparently, the pair say their dark sense of humor is one of the main things that brings them together, while the fun they have while filming their scenes only adds to the strength of their relationship.

Lena Headey and Pedro Pascal

Pedro Pascal is one of the many actors that has come and gone from the show throughout the series. His time might have been brief, but it gave Pedro enough time to meet fellow star, Lena Headey. It wasn’t long before they were spotted together.

Lena Headey and Pedro Pascal

The two actors looked as though they were getting particularly close in 2014. Many people believed that they were dating, but the rumors have since been put to rest as Lena is now married while Pedro is still single. Thankfully, they are still said to be close friends.

Nathalie Emmanuel and Jacob Anderson

Both Jacob Anderson and Nathalie Emmanuel joined the show in season three. It’s not long before their onscreen characters, Grey Worm and Missandei, are involved in one of the most gripping romances of the show.

Nathalie Emmanuel and Jacob Anderson

Many fans now believe that their chemistry goes a lot further than the show. The pair have never confirmed that they are in a relationship. However, some believe there is no way that Jacob and Nathalie could be so convincing in Game of Thrones without a little real-life chemistry behind the scenes.

Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke

Ah, Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke. These two partners in crime were often rumored to be dating. However, those rumors went one step further in 2016 when the pair were caught kissing in camera. It turned out there was a reason to it all.

Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke

A photographer apparently asked the couple to kiss and captured the moment on film. This was enough for many fans to believe that Kit and Emilia had finally taken their relationship one step further, but could the rumors be true?

John Bradley and Hanna Murray

Some actors appear to grow closer than others. Some even share car rides or dinner dates during filming. It looked as though John Bradley and Hannah Murray were no exception. The stars were often spotted driving to and from the set.

Plus, there have been many rumors that John has tried hard to win over his co-star by taking Hannah on lavish dates and buying her gifts. However, it looks as though their close relationship could all be thanks to the number of scenes they have filmed together instead.

Rosie Mac and Ignacio Blanco

It looks as though it’s not just the leading stars of the show who have met and fallen in love thanks to their time on Game of Thrones. Rosie Mac and Ignacio Blanco plated the body doubles for Michiel Huisman and Emilia Clarke on the show.

They soon hit it off and started dating before landing roles in the fantasy movie The Little Mermaid. The production crew rented an apartment for the pair to share while filming, but sadly they split just two days into their time on the movie set.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie

There have been many romances on the show. Kit Harington has been involved in a handful of love storylines – and was once supposed to see the character fall in love with Arya Stark. However, it was Ygritte, played by Rose Leslie, who stole his heart.

The pair fell in love on the show, but their tumultuous relationship wasn’t meant to last. The stars headed to Iceland to film some of their scenes for season two. It was here the two stars realized their love went a lot further than the scripts.

A themed event

The couple initially wanted to keep their private life to themselves. Kit and Rose eventually moved in together, but it was another celeb that encouraged them to walk down the aisle. That’s right; Nicole Kidman was the one who apparently pushed Kit to propose.

A themed event

The pair’s wedding invited later featured stamps from Game of Thrones for their ceremony that took place in June 2018. The best bit? Many of their co-stars attended the wedding to show their love and support for the two.

Jerome Flynn and Lena Headey

Unfortunately, it looks as though not all of the relationships behind the scenes of Game of Thrones have been successful. Lena Headey and Jerome Flynn dated before they even appeared on the show as they became an item back in 2002.

Jerome Flynn and Lena Headey

The pair were together for about a year before their relationship headed south and they went their separate ways. Sadly, it appears that things didn’t finish on good terms – as the producers were about to find out.

Keeping their distance

It turns out that things between Lena and Jerome ended so badly that the pair later refused to be in the same room together. Sure, they both play prominent characters in the show, but there was no budging for this pair.

Keeping their distance

The production team tried their hardest to make sure they were both kept apart at all costs. Scenes that had both characters were shot at separate times while some of the scripts were rewritten to make sure Lena and Jerome never had to be on the set at the same time.

Gwendoline Christie and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

while Brienne of Tarth’s love for Jaime Lannister will (sadly) probably have to remain unfulfilled, actors Gwendoline Christie and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau don’t seem to have any problems displaying their affection for one another.

Gwendoline Christie and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

In all of their interviews together, the two have shown that their dynamic is nothing like that of Brienne and Jaime, as they’re laid back and comfortable with one another. This picture, showing them both in matching t-shirts for the charity organization War Child, is clear proof.

No hard feelings, then

One of season five’s highest (or lowest, depending on how you look at it) points, came when Cersei performed her walk of atonement, accompanied by a bell-wielding Septa Unella who repeatedly cried out “Shame!”

No hard feelings, then

It’s nice to see that Lena Headey harbored no ill will towards the mean septa, played by Hannah Waddingham. Posting the photo to her Instagram account, Headey wrote, “Love Septa U, she’s aces.” It’s just another reminder, if we ever needed one, that these guys are pals behind the scenes.

Hold the rock

Despite their vast difference in age (not to mention size), Isaac Hempstead Wright and Kristian Nairn seem to be as close off-screen as they were on the show. Nairn’s Hodor is no longer on the show, but the two still love each other, and Hempstead Wright, who plays Bran, talked about how much he missed him.

Hold the rock

“He was a big cuddly fuzzy giant, who I just bother all day,” Hempstead Wright said. Whenever they see each other now, he added, Isaac makes sure to give him a big hug.

He’s my what?!

This photo, taken during the filming of Game of Thrones’ eighth and final season, says just about all you need to know about Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington’s relationship. Even though Kit said Emilia takes your breath away when she walks into a room, the two were never involved romantically, as we’ve mentioned.

He’s my what?!

Their friendship, which evolved almost immediately, is not based on physical attraction but rather on their shared love for very, very dark humor. “Emilia is so sweet, so giving,” Harington once said, “but she also has a filthy, filthy mind when she wants to.”

The apprenticeship is over

Of the many Game of Thrones relationships, hardly any are as flat out adorable as that of brave knight Brienne and her sidekick/squire Pod. After filming wrapped for the show’s final season, both Gwendoline Christie and Daniel Portman shared the image you see here separately on their own accounts.

The apprenticeship is over

Portman called Christie his “dear, dear friend” and the “kindest, most committed, hardworking person” he’s ever met. Christie, meanwhile, said, “I love you and I miss you and I can’t wait to watch you bloom through the rest of your career!”
