Evening Shade was the start of Reynolds’ revival, and he was cast in 1997 drama ‘Boogie Nights.’ Reynolds turned down the role multiple times but eventually signed on to the project. His role in Boogie Nights would see Reynolds nominated for an Academy Award, the only nomination of his career.

Although it should have propelled him back into the mainstream, it was just a blip and Reynolds went back to struggling for work shortly after. That was the trend for the remainder of his career before his passing in 2018.
