Unlike many of the colleges on this list, Northwestern University was not founded by a rich businessman or president. Instead, this college rose from the ashes in 1853 after the founders decided to buy 379 acres of land and attempt to teach those who wanted to further their education. To start with, they only had two professors and ten students, but the college has now expanded into 12 schools of education and two more campuses. With this prestige comes a low acceptance rate – 13% to be exact.
