Selleck began working in the entertainment industry as early as the 1960s. Following some modeling, he appeared on TV show The Dating Game as well as featuring in commercials for Pepsi. As many actors do, his career began with a series of smaller roles in movies such as Coma, Myra Breckinridge, and The Seven Minutes. He was struggling to find regular work but began featuring as a recurring guest on crime drama The Rockford Files.
