Not long after making her big comeback, Kelly announced that she had said farewell to her label of 14 years, RCA, and had signed with Atlantic Records. With her new label came the creative freedom that the star had been waiting for. The mother-of-two got a chance to leave her pop sound behind in order to create a much more raw-sounding, soul-influenced album in 2017 titled Meaning of Life. The album’s style was inspired by Kelly’s favorite artist of all time – Aretha Franklin. The moving album did well, earning the number two spot on the Billboard 200.
