On September 24, 1978 disaster struck as Pacific Southwest Airlines flight 182 which was on the way to San Diego from Sacramento, collided with a private Cessna 172 light aircraft. The crash sent both planes falling to the ground, taking the lives of all 137 passengers as well as seven people on the ground, and demolishing 22 houses.
The photographer of this heart-wrenching image captured this catastrophic moment just minutes before flight 182 plunged into the ground.
