Helena was never interested in the technical aspect of drawing. In fact, her education couldn’t be further from her passion. By trade, she has a degree in mechanical engineering, and even took a post-graduate course on materials engineering at the Federal University of Bahia. Inking, however, is her true love.

“It made others happy and it made me happy,” she said. “It still does.” She has recently found a way to bring academia into her parlor, so to speak, by studying the relations between tattooing and social networks like Instagram. On top of that, she also gives art classes – believe it or not – that mainly have to do with helping young artists find their own style and voice.
