[post_page_title]Type B merit badges[/post_page_title]
The Type B badge was the first circular merit badge produced. Collectors and scouts will likely know them as “Wide Border” or “Wide Border Crimped” badges. They earned this moniker because of the large amount of space between the end of the badges’ design and the end of the actual badge. The crimped edge came from the way the edges of the fabric were tapered down on the back of the badge in order to create the circular shape. They were only produced between 1934-1935, making them a rare find in today’s scouting world. The rarity of the badge makes them extremely valuable to collectors, and people will often search far and wide with the hopes of coming across one.
