A year after Kelly survived the attack in the Golden Gardens restroom, the man who attacked her, Gary Steiner, was sentenced to a minimum of three years in prison. Kelly testified at his hearing, speaking for herself and for all of the other women who cannot speak out against their attackers. According to local news sources, Steiner broke into tears during the sentencing, and asked the judge for the maximum penalty possible. According to Kelly, he is reportedly a dangerous repeat offender, and it was unsafe for him to be free on the streets.
