In the months following the attack, Kelly struggled with posttraumatic stress disorder. She gained a lot of attention from the media and felt that she had to continue training in order to show people her success. That put a lot of pressure on her, and running stopped being fun. So, she stopped for a while and took the time to focus on herself, healing her body and soul. When she was ready, she started training again and ran the Chicago Marathon, her first full marathon, with her mother in 2017.
