Kelly was not always a marathoner. In 2012, she began her transition from the couch to 5k, a difficult feat for anyone who is trying to start an active lifestyle. A 5k is about 3.1 miles, and is a great goal for runners who are beginning to challenge themselves and race. But Kelly didn’t just stop after completing her first 5k – she decided to keep training, running 12 races in just 12 months. That’s why she was out running on March 7, getting ready for the marathon.
