Although Cat Stevens wrote this song about his girlfriend at the time, Patti D’Arbanville, there is a certain melancholy and bittersweet feeling to it.

Considering the fact that Patti would soon leave Stevens for Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, it seems as if the song was a reflection on the tumultuous life of rock and roll, and how fleeting romantic relationships were back then. Bittersweet or not, the song is a fine piece of work, and we’ve all benefited quite a lot from it over the years.
