Those who worked with both Susan and David knew exactly what was going on in front of their eyes. Susan tried to hide her feelings for David, but she just couldn’t keep them all under wraps – and her castmates soon realized what was going on. Shirley Jones has since confirmed that she tried to warn Susan away from David. She knew of his questionable reputation, and she knew that the young actress was going to get hurt. Susan decided to ignore all of the advice she received and all of the warning signs.
This rift between Susan Dey and David Cassidy was ultimately the main reason why Susan refused to be a part of The Partridge Family reunions. If David was going to be there, she most definitely wasn’t going to be there – and that was final. This fact soon made its way to David himself, who soon spoke publicly about the fact that he was upset. 
He wanted to remain friends with Susan, and he was hurt that she would simply cut him out of her life. He hopes to one day reconcile their differences.
