Everyone around Susan could see that she was putting her body in danger, but she just couldn’t see it for herself. Thankfully, a switch was flicked when she rocked up to a photoshoot in just a swimsuit. She was working the photo shoot with Danny Bonaduce, but he didn’t give her the reaction she was expecting. Rather than marveling at her slim physique, Danny was horrified at just how dangerously thin she was. This was the catalyst that caused Susan to rethink her eating habits and put some weight back on her body.
As soon as Susan put on more weight, she was able to truly understand what she had been through during those tough years. She was finally able to realize that she had been suffering from an eating disorder and that it would be a lengthy battle to truly overcome, but at least she could come to terms with why she struggled in the first place.
Because much of her life was controlled by her producers and directors, Susan felt like she needed to take control over something. So, she took control of her food intake and her meals.
