What would the movie be without Hercules? For many parts of the movie they actually used a massive puppet dog, but a real dog was required for a number of scenes. Tom Guiry confirmed that “The Beast” was just as large in person as he appeared on screen, which could be intimidating. When it came time for Hercules to lick Smalls’ face, they smeared an entire jar of baby food on his cheek to get the dog to go for it. Luckily for them, Guiry loved dogs so he thought the experience was fun.
