Starring in non-stop movies and dealing with mega fame eventually had a toll on the actor, and he found himself feeling lonely, isolated, and depressed. So, he decided to spend a year abroad in Italy, from 1931 to 1932. While he was there, he found himself involved in yet another romantic fling, this time with the American-born Countess Dorothy di Frasso, who was married to an important Italian figure.
