Unfortunately for Diggy, pit bulls are often a misunderstood breed that many places have on their list of “dangerous” dogs. It’s easy to see why people might come to that conclusion since it seems like whenever we see stories in the news of someone attacked by a dog, it looks like a pit bull did it. Some dog attacks can be fatal, and in 2016 almost half of the fatal dog attacks reported were caused by pit bulls.

Because of the pit bulls’ reputation, many people look at this dog breed with fear, which leads them to be frequently misunderstood. However, despite what the news may make it seem like, pit bulls are not necessarily aggressive dogs by nature. They sadly have had the misfortune of often being used in illegal dog fights and as bait dogs, which means they are put in situations where they are being pushed by humans to act aggressively.

The truth is that pit bulls are generally very sweet dogs by nature, and with a responsible and kind owner, can flourish and make great family pets. Looking at a dog like Diggy it’s almost unfathomable to think that a happy, goofball like him could possibly be considered dangerous. But the township had made this law, and the police had to enforce it. However, Dan tried to explain that while Diggy might look a pit bull, that wasn’t even his true breed.
