Dan had hoped that his court case would go smoothly considering that he had the paperwork confirming that Diggy wasn’t even a pit bull. But it looked like things were not going to be so easy. Nevertheless, Dan was so thankful for all the support he was getting. On his social media he talked about how he was working with his lawyer, and that were going to do everything possible to keep Diggy at home with his family. He wrote at the end, “Thanks for all of your support, guys. I’m not a quitter.”

On top of the thousands of signatures on the petition, people also began showing up in the Waterford Township to protest in person. Many people even made the effort to join Dan at a town meeting where the issue of the anti-pit bull law was going to be discussed. Dan was so touched to see all these people show up for him and Diggy. With all these supporters at his side maybe he could change the hearts and minds of the court.

So many people in the local community were on Dan’s side as well, including the Detroit Dog Rescue, who hoped to be able to reunite Diggy with his family. Like many of the supporters, the rescue also hoped that this case could set an example for future rescue dogs and raise awareness. Kristina Rinaldi, the rescue’s director, said, “People had really invested their emotions into this story, and it’s beautiful to see so many people care about rescue dogs.”
