Scientists found signs of life 7.5 miles below ground, inside the Kola Superdeep Borehole

Scientists were astounded to discover that between some of the cracks in the rock at that depth there was water. At around four miles deep the Soviet dig discovered water, which left scientists trying to theorize why it was there at all.

They found that the water stayed there after it permeated from below but was unable to find a way through the solid rock at that depth. Hydrogen and oxygen atoms were squeezed out but had nowhere to go, until the boring machine of the Soviets found it.
