Ahh, the harrowing shield scene. Before the cavalry comes, we see Thanos chip away at Captain America’s shield – and it was certainly hard to watch. That being said, it’s not like we haven’t seen it before.
That moment was actually a clear reference to a dream Tony had in Age of Ultron, where the exact same thing was happening. Whether or not this was a prophetic vision or simply a coincidence, we don’t know – but the writers were obviously doing it on purpose.
